This is the last week to donate school supplies for the Write from the Start Citywide School Supply Drive! Visit the Supply Drive web page to find out how you can support our students.
Did you know that 53 percent of students enrolled in Vancouver Public Schools qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, an indicator of poverty? In addition, the number of district students who are homeless or living in transition is at an all-time high of more than 1000 during the last school year.
For these students’ families, and many others, new school supplies often are difficult or impossible to afford. Not having the right tools makes it hard for these students to begin learning on the first day of school. That’s where we come in.
This summer businesses and organizations across the city are collecting supplies for the students of Vancouver and Evergreen Public Schools as part of the Write from the Start supply drive. You can help in one of the following ways…
- Purchase school supplies and drop off at one of the collection sites through August 19th. See the list of requested supplies.
- Help us STUFF THE BUS on August 20. Bring the supplies to Columbia Credit Union, 108 Grand Blvd, between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- You can also make a monetary donation to the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools at http://foundationforvps.org. On the donation form you can indicate if you would like to donate to Evergreen or Vancouver Public Schools. Donations are tax-deductible.
Thank you for helping students get ready for school!
