Did you know that over 50 percent of students enrolled in Vancouver Public Schools qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, an indicator of poverty? In addition, the number of district students who are homeless or living in transition is at an all-time high of more than 1000 during the last school year.
For these students’ families, and many others, new school supplies often are difficult or impossible to afford. Not having the right tools makes it hard for these students to begin learning on the first day of school. That’s where we come in.
This summer businesses and organizations across the city are collecting supplies for the students of Vancouver and Evergreen Public Schools as part of the Write from the Start supply drive. You can help in one of the following ways…
- Purchase school supplies and drop off at one of the collection sites through August 19th. See the school supply wish list.
- Help us STUFF THE BUS on August 20. Bring the supplies to Dick Hannah Honda, 3321 NE Auto Mall Drive, between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- You can also make a monetary donation to the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools at http://foundationforvps.org. On the donation form you can indicate if you would like to donate to Vancouver or Evergreen Public Schools. Donations are tax-deductible.
Thank you for helping students get ready for school!
