Annual Luncheon will be Virtual
Out of an abundance of concern for the safety of students, guests, and community, the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) has canceled its annual Luncheon scheduled for March 19th. Instead, the non-profit will host a Virtual Luncheon with details to be announced next week.
The Luncheon is the biggest community fundraiser for the Foundation for VPS, expecting to draw 600 people. The online event will highlight the talents of students, share impact stories of students and families who’ve benefited from Foundation for VPS support, recipes from VPS Culinary Arts students, and more.
Financial donations to the Foundation for VPS allow VPS staff and Family Community Resource Coordinators to quickly mobilize resources and wrap services around students and families at the right time. “Removing basic need barriers and providing opportunities to increase parent engagement and out of school enrichment helps students strengthen relationships and build their capacity to succeed and thrive, despite the many challenges they may face” said Nada Wheelock, Executive Director.
“There are many stresses taking their toll on students – emotionally, physically, and academically,” added Wheelock. “The current escalating crisis heightens the increased need for capacity and resources to help stabilize situations for vulnerable students and families during this critical time of need.”
Wheelock expressed gratitude for the staff, board members, and table captains who have worked all year on the Luncheon saying, “We will carry this work and enthusiasm forward virtually, reaching an even larger audience.”
“We are thankful to the Vancouver community, individuals, organizations, Community Champions, and event sponsors who continue to step up and reach out to support our mission to create opportunities that cultivate and inspire student success despite our need to move to a virtual online event,” said Wheelock. “Now, more than ever, your support really does change lives.”
