Removing Barriers So Every Child Is Ready To Learn

College & Career Readiness

Funding provides opportunities for students to discover all of their possible pathways after high school and explore their career interests. Students receive college readiness programming, career planning support, real-world work experiences, and support in internships to prepare for life after graduation.

Examples of past impact:

  • Students received college readiness programming through GEAR UP (“Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programming”).
  • Students placed in internships were supported with gas cards, job specific clothing, fees for certifications, interview workshops, and job networking events. Students experiencing homelessness received additional support enabling them too.
  • Students attended presentations on college and career planning and participated in peer-to-peer mediation training.
  • Fort Vancouver High School culinary arts students receive catering experience by planning, preparing, and serving lunch for 500 guests at the annual Foundation for VPS luncheon at the Hilton Vancouver. During the event, students work front and back of house with guidance from the Hilton’s banquet staff.
  • Hudson’s Bay FFA Nursery & Floral students hone their design skills, creating large floral arrangements and centerpieces for the Foundation’s luncheon. Video tech students went behind the scenes at PGE park to learn sports broadcasting.
