Removing Barriers So Every Child Is Ready To Learn

Family & Community Engagement

Funds help strengthen school communities by supporting engagement activities that connect families to resources and opportunities to support student success. When families are engaged in their child’s education and feel a connection to the school and it’s staff, students attend school more regularly, get better grades, have higher graduation rates, and are more likely to enroll in postsecondary education.

Examples of past impact:

  • Children and caregivers read together at home, thanks to 1,781 books provided in 9 languages during Read Across America.
  • VPS Family-Community Resource coordinators hosted 467 family engagement events reaching 37,137 cumulative attendees.
  • Provided food, materials, and supplies to encourage participation in family leadership and parent advisory groups.
  • The Plaza, a districtwide family engagement program offering adult English instruction and other skill building subjects, tutoring, enrichment and community building hosted 57 sessions with an average of 100 participants.
