5th Grader Raises $700 to “Give Back” to Hazel Dell Elementary

With the end of the school year approaching, Hazel Dell Elementary School fifth grade student Sarah Payne wanted to do something to give back to her school. She recalled learning about the importance of community giving from her first grade teacher and worked with her parents to organize her own fundraiser, “Sarah’s Give Back Campaign”.

“As I get ready to move into middle school next year, I want to give back to my elementary school that’s given me so much over six years,” stated Sarah in her fundraising materials.

Sarah chose to do a triathlon doing the activities she loved; swimming, running, and horseback riding and asked her family, friends and classmates to sponsor her. To complete her 100 lap triathlon, Sarah swam 50 laps; ran, skipped, and cartwheeled a total of 36 laps around a track; and rode 14 laps on horseback around Battle Ground Lake.

Sarah raised $700 and donated all the money to the Foundation for VPS to benefit Hazel Dell Elementary.
